Grow Africa is a long-term US government initiative which was initially co-funded by the Obama administration and the UK Department for International Development. The initiative focussed on the creation of a digital platform with two key purposes: to encourage foreign investment into African agriculture; and to empower African stakeholders to share farming data in order to better inform their crop strategy. As Creative Director at Matter of Form my brief was to update and refresh the brand and create an identity and set of guidelines that would reflect the core values of the initiative and serve as a foundation for the future development of the digital platform.
We started by undertaking a series of workshops at the World Economic Forum headquarters in Geneva in order to align the organisation around the brand and identify the key tenets of what Grow Africa stands for. The outputs from the workshop were refined and I developed a visual expression system around four activity pillars; connecting stakeholders, mobilising investment, coordinating resources, and sharing knowledge. I used this system to develop concepts for Grow Africa's website and platform and to design the layout and data visualisation for the annual and monthly reports.
